Clearwater, Fl.—The Scientology Volunteer Ministers (VMs) Florida held a volunteer activation event on August 31st in the Fort Harrison Crystal Ballroom. They signed up over 100 people to help bring aid to the community before and after Hurricane Dorian passes.
“The VMs are going to be ready for anything,” said Glendy Goodsell, the ED of the Scientology VMs Florida. Now that Hurricane Dorian is a Category 5 hurricane, “We are moving flat-out on preparations. We are gathering supplies to help whoever will need it post-hurricane, just like we did after Hurricane Irma.”
The very next day, two VMs did an interview at the VM center on Fort Harrison Avenue. On Facebook Live with Radio Renovación 1520 AM, they advised listeners how to stay safe during the hurricane. “We also have an emergency response team at my church in Tampa with 60 people,” said radio host Baltazar Martinez. “It’s important that we help everyone during this time.”
In the VM center, volunteers have already filled boxes upon boxes with hundreds of hygiene kits. Each kit contains bottles of shampoo, soap, toilet paper and other essentials. Victims will need these after the hurricane. VMs also activated a phone tree. “We’re asking anyone to please bring toiletries to our center* so we are ready with as much as possible,” said Goodsell.
